Town of Shelby working hard to keep ball fields green

LA CROSSE, Wis. — The hot, dry weather can do a number on your lawn and it has cities scrambling to keep their parks from going brown.

The Town of Shelby has stepped up efforts to keep its baseball fields from drying out. The fields host baseball and softball games throughout the week.

The grounds crew has been watering the fields more often and they say they see the effect the weather has been having on the grass. “If it’s hot days like this and you don’t keep water on it, or if you don’t water it for two days you will start to tell its turning brown you know, cause the sun’s just beatin’ down on ’em not that much shade on ’em so it’s nice to keep them watered,” says Marcus Klug who helps take care of the fields.
