Transplant recipient celebrates the gift of life
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — A local man is celebrating the gift of life, by giving back to those who need it the most.
It’s been 25 years since Steven Johnson received a kidney and pancreas transplant. At the time, Johnson was 27, living a nursing home, and suffering from Type 1 diabetes.
Johnson held a 25th transplant anniversary party Friday night at the Charmant Hotel in La Crosse.
Guest were encouraged to donate to a go fund me page. It was set up to give care packages to organ donor families who have lost a loved one. .
“When we can come together as a family and help somebody else out, and help them out through the process, through the grieving process, and make that a little bit easier, that’s really what it’s about,” said Johnson.
