Trempealeau County committee moves Second Amendment sanctuary resolution to full board

The resolution will now move to the full county board

WHITEHALL, Wis. (WKBT) – The debate to make Trempealeau County a Second Amendment sanctuary continues.

Wednesday afternoon the county’s Law Enforcement and Emergency Management Committee considered a resolution to declare the county a sanctuary.

The move is mostly symbolic.

Before the meeting, backers of the proposal gathered outside the county courthouse to voice their support.

“We want them to show they’re going to stand for our constitutional rights that already belong to us,” said one supporter.

Opponents also shared their opinions.

“I support having what I consider normal guns. None of us need assault weapons,” an opponent said

The committee moved the proposal to the full county board.

It will consider the proposal sometime in June.
