Tri-State Ambulance: Oktoberfest weekend 2021 has average EMS responses
LA CROSSE (WKBT) — Oktoberfest weekend 2021 had an average number of EMS and ambulance responses for alcohol-related incidents — none of which were on either of the fest grounds, according to Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance.
“We would like to commend the volunteers and planners of the Oktoberfest event as there were no EMS responses to either of the fest grounds. We appreciate the city of La Crosse Police Department and other area departments for co-responding with our EMS professionals to help ensure their safety,” said Tom Tornstrum of Tri-State.
There were seven ambulances, two bike paramedic teams and three paramedic teams during peak staffing hours on Friday and Saturday night. Altogether, Tri-State had 242 extra staff hours because of Oktoberfest.
Tri-State logged 208 total requests for service, up by seven requests in 2019.
There were 115 total emergency requests in the city of La Crosse — 22.8% less than in 2019. Thirty-two percent of all weekend patients were between 18 and 30 years old. Typically fewer than 10% of calls are for people in that age group.
Tri-State estimates that 30% of all weekend responses and 40% of city of La Crosse responses were alcohol-related.
