‘Trunk Junk’ event teaches students to prepare for winter driving
Event included example emergency kit
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Do you know how to prepare for dangerous winter driving conditions?
Students at Logan High School hosted a “Trunk Junk” event Thursday afternoon to learn and teach each other just that.
With help from the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and State Farm, students used the opportunity to clean out their trunks and back seats, check and replace safety equipment, and review winter driving tips. The event also had an example emergency kit, including items like jumper cables, winter boots, and blankets.
Event organizers say the message is one some students need to get used to.
“You never know what can happen. A lot of times they think nothing could happen to them while they’re driving. We want them to know, you break down, you run out of gas, something happens you’ve got to be prepared because you never know what’s going to happen,” said Logan High School Teacher Jessa Pfennig.
Students who already had safety gear in their vehicle had the chance to win gift cards.
