Turned Leaf Family Festival offers substance-free Oktoberfest fun

LA CROSSE (WKBT) — The 40th annual Turned Leaf Family Festival, held at Myrick park, offers an Oktoberfest celebration for everyone.

Saturday’s fun included brats and hot dogs, live music, magic shows and crafts for kids.

The Oktoberfest Royal Family made a visit, too.

The event looks a lot like Oktoberfest, but it gives folks an opportunity to be festive in a different way.

“It is for those who would just rather have a substance-free celebration of Oktoberfest,” said Rita Von Haden, the festival’s executive director. “In 1982, it was started and geared more towards those in recovery… it has really expanded since then.”

Around 350 people celebrate at Turned Leaf each year, and anyone who attends is encouraged to donate.

Proceeds from the event go to Coulee Recovery Center.
