UMinn regents approve beer at TCF Bank Stadium
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — University of Minnesota regents have voted to allow beer sales at TCF Bank Stadium starting this fall.
Wednesday’s vote was 10 to 1. The decision is expected to bring an additional $1 million to $1.5 million annually in sales and suite rentals.
Fans in general seating areas will be able to buy beer from only two stands, both on the west side of the stadium, farthest away from the student section. They can bring beer back to their seats.
Depending on which vendor the university chooses, wine sales may be added as well.
The vote makes Minnesota the only Big Ten school to serve alcohol in general seating, not just luxury suites. Minnesota also allowed general alcohol sales when the Gophers played at the Metrodome before moving back to campus.
