Unemployment rate drops in La Crosse


LA CROSSE, Wis. — The unemployment rate drops below six percent in La Crosse, according to numbers released Wednesday by the state.

The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) says the preliminary September unemployment rate in the La Crosse metro area was 5.5%, down from 6% in August. The La Crosse metro had the second-lowest rate in the state, behind Madison’s 5.2%.

The city of La Crosse’s unemployment rate was also 6.6%, down from 7.4% in August, and La Crosse County’s rate was 5.5%, down from 6% in August.

Wisconsin’s unemployment rate for September was 7.8%, and the national rate was 9.1%.
