UNI president helps students move into dorms

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — The University of Northern Iowa’s new president could have a future as a mover if his academic job doesn’t work out.

President Bill Ruud and his wife Judy spent much of Thursday afternoon helping freshmen and sophomores move their belongings into residence halls at the Cedar Falls campus.

As he was helping one family, the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports Rudd asked parent Kim McCarty, “Did you leave anything at home, dad?”

Ruud only acknowledged his title after being questioned by reporters.

Ruud began work this spring at the 12,000-student university.

He says he helped new students unload their possessions at a previous school and finds it’s an effective way of meeting students.

Residence hall official Pat Beck called it “part of the distinctive experience you’d have at the UNI.”
