Unveiling ceremony held for new veterans memorial in Winona

The cemetery has what is believed to be the only gravesite of a Revolutionary War veteran in the state of Minnesota.

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Community members celebrated a new veterans memorial in Winona’s Woodlawn Cemetery.

There was an unveiling ceremony Saturday afternoon.

The memorial includes descriptions of military conflicts and monuments that explain how members of the military have sacrificed for the country.

The 34th Division National Guard band took part and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz joined in on the ceremony.

“I just think it shows that we’re not going to forget. We understand that sacrifice and we’re here to make that clear to everyone. So this memorial really does symbolize the communities commitment to our veterans,” said Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
