UPDATE: La Crosse police identify 15-year-old killed in Sunday’s shooting

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — La Crosse police have identified the 15-year-old killed in a homicide Sunday morning. La Crosse Police identified the teenager as 15-year-old Storm Vondrashek.

La Crosse police say this was not a random shooting. They believe the shooter targeted Vondrashek and the second, surviving victim.

Just before 1:30 A.M on Sunday, officers responded to a shots-fired call at 1900 7th Street South.

“That person has been identified as Storm Vondrashek, 15 years old,” La Crosse Police Lt. Linnea Miller, said.

Vondrashek died at the scene.

“This incident was not a random act,” Miller said.

Vondrashek was a student at Logan High School. Friends of Vondrashek say he was a fun person to be around.

“We always used to go out to the beach. He was a really good kid. He always made everybody laugh,” said Maggie Kemp, a friend of Vondrashek. “He was hilarious. He was outgoing.”

In a statement sent to families, the Superintendent of the School District of La Crosse says the district is providing additional school counseling resources for students. Although the district has few safety concerns, it is working with the La Crosse Police Department to make sure all students are safe. School Resource Officers are present in school.

“They would be providing any assistance as necessary,” said Miller about the SROs.

The second victim is recovering from their injuries. Police have not released that person’s name, but the victim has been active on social media and is reported to a 17-year-old boy.

Police have yet to make an arrest, but say they are working closely with Vondrashek’s family.

“We share our condolences with the family and friends of the Storm,” said Miller.

Vondrashek’s friends say they’re hoping for answers soon.

“Justice. I hope they get whoever did it,” said Kemp.

This is an ongoing investigation. If you or anyone you know has any information regarding the shooting, you can contact La Crosse Area Crime Stoppers at (608)-784-8477. You can also submit a tip online by downloading the Crime Stoppers App ‘P3.’
