UPDATE: Man who died after falling off moving vehicle identified

Jackson Co. deputies say victim was illegally riding on rear bumper

JACKSON CO., Wis. (WKBT) — One person is dead after falling from a moving vehicle in Jackson Co. Monday evening.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of Pettibone Pass and Morrison Rd. around 5:15 p.m.

The sheriff says 26-year-old Darren Hopinka of the Black River falls area and another person were illegally riding on the rear bumper of the vehicle.

They were catching a ride to a nearby residence.

First responders and other medical personnel responded to the scene, but Hopinka died from his injuries.

The incident remains under investigation by the Jackson Co. Sheriff’s Department.
