UPDATE: New MnSCU chancellor formally installed

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The newly installed chancellor of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system says he’s heard from students about rising tuition costs — and he gets it.

Steven Rosenstone was installed as MnSCU’s fourth chancellor Wednesday in a ceremony at the state Capitol.

In his remarks, Rosenstone said he is “deeply worried” about what he calls “the darkest cloud in the educational sky — the shifting of costs from the state to students.”

He says keeping the doors open to an extraordinary education for all Minnesotans will remain MnSCU’s top priority.

The ceremony featured a new tradition, the presentation of a ceremonial medallion to the chancellor.

The medallion and chain were designed by Todd Hawkinson, a professional jeweler and instructor at Minnesota State College – Southeast Technical in Red Wing.
