UPDATE: Sheriff releases names involved in fatal Monroe County crash

SPARTA, Wis. (WKBT)- The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office released the names of those involved in a fatal crash on February 8.
Matthew Edwards, 37, of Sparta, died in the head-on crash Saturday at 7:45 p.m. Edwards was the only person in that vehicle.
Five individuals were injured in the other vehicle. The driver of that vehicle was Akira Sherburn, 18, of Cashton, Madison Steinhoff, 19, Zachary Siple, 19, Peyton Riley, 18, and an unnamed 17-year-old female, all from Sparta.
They were all taken to area hospitals for life-threatening injuries, and one was taken by med-flight.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Edward’s vehicle may have crossed the center line at the time of the crash. There is no indication that alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash, according to Monroe County Sheriff Wesley Revels.
Both directions of State Highway 16 were closed for about 31/2 hours,

McCoy, Sparta, and Tomah Ambulance Services; GundersenAir; Oakdale, Sparta, and Tomah Fire Departments; Oakdale First Responders; and the Monroe County Medical Examiner.
