UW Health doctor warns of increase of RSV cases
In Wisconsin, RSV cases started climbing in July and have been rising since.
MADISON, Wis. (WKBT)- Wisconsin Pediatricians and public health officials say a respiratory disease common in kids is spreading earlier than usual.
RSV usually results in mild symptoms, but can be severe in infants and older adults.
Symptoms are similar to that of COVID-19, so officials say testing for COVID-19 is important.
A University of Wisconsin Health pediatrician says some kids are getting both illnesses at once.
“It’s really a concern for kids who are really young for less than two. Because they can get severe infections with it. And then also children who have some underlying lung and heart issues can get severe infections, hospitalizations and even die from it,” said UW Health Pediatric Infectious Disease Specialist.
In Wisconsin, RSV cases started climbing in July and have been rising since.
As of late last month, a little more than 16- hundred patients have been tested for RSV.
298 were positive.
