UW Health is one of about about 100 sites across the U.S. taking part
MADISON, Wis. (WKBT) – UW Health’s American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison is taking part in a COVID-19 vaccine study for children.
It’s one of about 100 sites to study the the effects of Moderna vaccine in kids younger than 12.
Researchers hope to enroll about 12,000 children.
About 80 of those kids will enroll at UW Health.
Wisconsin researchers says their study go slowly to reduce risks.
“The FDA is going very deliberately through these trials and has just recently increased the numbers so that we can increase the chance that we see any of these side effects that could pop up,”
Children ages six to 12 will get the first shots, followed by children ages two to six and then those younger than two.
Federal regulators have yet to approve any version of the vaccine for children younger than 12.
