UW-L sweeps Oshkosh, finishes second in WIAC

Highest finish for Eagles since 2012

The UW-La Crosse baseball team swept UW-Oshkosh in a doubleheader at Copeland Park Sunday afternoon, 2-1 and 13-5.

The Eagles (24-14, 16-7) finish in second place in the WIAC regular season standings. (UW-Whitewater clinched the conference title Saturday). This is their highest finish since winning the league in 2012.

In the second game, UW-L trailed the Titans 3-0 late, when their bats exploded to bust the game wide open.

“It was a playoff atmosphere today and you know, come conference tournament time, it’s kind of the same energy level that we need to have and the expectation that, whether we’re up or down, you know we keep fighting,” said UW-La Crosse Baseball Coach Chris Schwarz, who earned his 200th career victory at the end of April.

“There’s nine innings for a reason and we kept playing, we kept fighting and found a way to win.”

As the No. 2 seed for the WIAC Tournament, the Eagles will open the postseason playing No. 3 seed UW-Stevens Point on Friday, May 9 at 1 p.m. The conference tournament takes place at UW-Whitewater. Click here to see the complete schedule.

“We’re going to be fresh,” Schwarz said. “We’re going to be hot.”
