UW-L walloped by Whitewater, falls to 0-4
22300976LA CROSSE, WI — The game was tied at three in the second quarter.
“There’s definitely two different phases of the game going on,” UW-L head coach Joel Dettwiler said.
No. 12 UW-Whitewater scored 44 unanswered points en route to a 47-3 win, the Warhawks’ largest margin of victory ever against UW-La Crosse. The Eagles, meanwhile, fell to 0-4 on the season.
“I mean they get 47 points because we have a lack of effort and we have guys not trying,” Dettwiler said. “I’ve never been associated with something like that in my career. You know, it’s very hard to be associated with that and have my name on that right now.”
Eagles quarterback Andy Sires finished the game 10-21, throwing for just 75 yards. However, the defense might be just as blameworthy. Whitewater racked up 28 first downs, 355 passing yards and 560 total yards of offense.
“I challenged the kids, if you don’t want to be here, then don’t come back tomorrow,” Dettwiler said.
UW-L travels to UW-Oshkosh next week. The Titans are ranked eighth.
