UW-La Crosse partners with Mayo Clinic Health System for third annual Youth Symposium

LA CROSSE (WKBT) – Coaches, athletes, and parents gathered for the third annual Youth Symposium.

UW-La Crosse partnered with Mayo Clinic Health System for this free event, which offered sports exercise and evaluation demonstrations.

Student-athletes also heard from speakers on nutrition and preparing for college athletics.

Organizers say that this year’s focus was all about helping student-athletes find balance.

“For a lot of athletes, it’s making sure you’re getting enough,” said Mayo Clinic Health System athletic trainer Joel Luedke. “Especially when you’re busy– sports are a year-round thing. It can be not uncommon for athletes to under-eat a little bit at a time, but that adds up over the course of time. That can ultimately impact injury risk, but also recovery from that injury.”

Luedke also says that for these young athletes, success can be found by focusing on long-term health.
