UW-La Crosse professor creates virtual ancient Egypt exhibit

Some scans can be downloaded and run through a 3D printer

LA CROSSE, Wis (WKBT) – A UW-La Crosse professor is bringing ancient Egypt to life, virtually.

David Anderson is an associate professor at UWL.He has created virtual 3D scans of ancient tombs and artifacts that will allow students, historians, and the general public to explore and interact with ancient history.

Whenever Anderson would visit a museum or historical site, he would take as many pictures of the object or location, getting as many angles as possible.

Then using a program, he was able to create virtual, to-scale models of his pictures. Some scans can be downloaded and run through a 3D printer so you could even hold a small piece of history in your hands.

The site has over 250 3D images. To see them visit www.sketchfab.com/danderson4.
