UW-La Crosse shortstop follows in brother’s footsteps

Alex Cordova learned from older brother Adam

Two brothers from Merrill, Wisconsin now have something big in common: they helped lead the UW-La Crosse baseball team to the NCAA Tournament.

UW-L last made it to the NCAA Regionals two years ago. Adam Cordova was starting. Now, his younger brother Alex is starting.

He’s the Eagles shortstop.

“I’ll always be in his footsteps here,” Alex said. “Even on the internet, in the articles after the game, it’s Adam Cordova, sometimes they screw up. But it’s a big deal to come after him.”

“I think him seeing his older brother play in a regional and in conference tournament championship games really helped bring him here,” said Eagles Baseball Coach Chris Schwarz.

“He rubbed off on me quite a bit,” said Alex.

La Crosse opens the NCAA tournament against Concordia-Chicago Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Whitewater.
