UW-La Crosse Wrestling hosting unique dual featuring Badgers
UW-La Crosse wrestling looks to make it six consecutive WIAC titles this season, but before conference play, the Eagles get to host a truly unique event on their home floor Friday night.
The Eagles are bringing all three NCAA divisions together at Mitchell Hall for the Battle of the Bluffs. It’ll be a three-mat triple dual setup, with all three duals taking place simultaneously. So UWL will be wrestling alongside the likes of Division II Upper Iowa and the Division I Wisconsin Badgers.
“They’re going to wrestle in front of thousands of people, which they don’t normally get to do unless it’s at the national championships,” UWL head coach Dave Malecek said. “It’s going to be a big time environment, and obviously then they’re rubbing elbows with the Division I guys. They want to battle with the best, and they’re right there with every other team. It’s a great experience for our guys.”
The Eagles will dual the University of the Ozarks, the D-II match features Upper Iowa and Ouachita Baptist, and the Badgers take on Arkansas-Little Rock for D-I. All the action starts at 7 p.m. Friday.
