UW System bracing for more big budget cuts
3965808MADISON, Wis. — University of Wisconsin System officials are surprised to learn they have to make additional budget cuts.
An e-mail late last week shows the UW System needs to make one-time budget cuts totaling more than $65 million over the next two years. That’s on top of the existing $250 million budget cut. Specifically for UW-La Crosse, it would mean additional cuts of more than $2.7 million.
A spokesman for the UW system says he isn’t sure how the system can absorb these cuts without negatively affecting the education of students.
UW System spokesman David Giroux says the UW System will need to cut $46.1 million this year and $19.6 million next year.
