UWL holds Women’s Day forum
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — UW-La Crosse hosted an International Women’s Day celebration of its own Wednesday.
Five panelists from across the world were brought in Wednesday night to speak as part of the annual event.
The women from Bulgaria, China, Iceland, Ukraine, and Syria shared their experiences of what life is like as a woman in their native countries and how it compares to their experiences in the U.S.
Organizers say events like this one help everyone recognize the contributions of women, not just now but also throughout history.
“When we grew up, we heard about men in history classes, and the textbooks were about men, so it’s a wonderful time to celebrate in March, writing women back into history,” said Lois Gilbert, the chairwoman of the International Women’s Day planning committee at UWL.
This is the fourth year the International Women’s Day Committee has hosted a celebration in La Crosse.
