UWL hosts ‘Veterans Day Breakfast’
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Saturday is Veterans Day and people across the country are celebrating those who serve our country in the military.
During the morning, the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse hosted its seventh annual “Veterans Day Breakfast.”
The event included a ceremony at Veterans Memorial Stadium as well as a breakfast in Mitchell Hall that was free for all veterans and their families. More than 200 student athletes from UWL helped set up the event.
Event organizers say events like these are important for both students and veterans.
“First and foremost (it’s important) to honor our veterans that we have in our community and from outreaching areas. I think it’s also a good opportunity for our student athletes to be involved in something in the community. For them to maybe gain some knowledge about what it really means to be a veteran, to see the veterans here, to serve them,” said Joshua Buchholtz, UWL men’s track and field head coach.
There were more than 400 veterans and their families at the event.
