UWL women’s lacrosse sees short first season as a learning opportunity

LA CROSSE, Wis (WKBT)–Senior days usually are reserved for the last home game of the season, to send off a Senior after a long tenured career.

But after advocating for years to bring the sport to the town, two women’s lacrosse players are seeing a send off after only two career home games.

Today was an impromptu Senior day at UWL as the lacrosse team had their first ever season cut short due to the suspension of spring sports.

The team only played 6 games, two of those being at home.

They are optimistic that they could pick up their sticks to resume season play before the summer, but will have to wait and see.

This season has been frustrating for the team, but also a learning opportunity.

“I think it brings more emotions with it, I think it brings anger, we wanted to play longer and our Seniors are leaving and they won’t get that redshirt, so it’s frustrating,” reflected Sophomore Valerie Johnson.

“I’ve learned so much, I’ve grown so much as a coach, and as a person and as a mentor. I’ve learned so much from the team this year and I myself have to be more adaptable and patient,” said Coach Cassandra Berger.

On their last game, the Eagles came up short against the Vikings of Augustana, 11-9.
