Vaccine mandate protest in La Crosse follows deadline for Gundersen Health System

As of September, Gundersen said 85 percent of its staff was vaccinated

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — A group of community members is rallying against vaccine mandates.

They gathered Tuesday outside of Gundersen Health System, where its COVID-19 vaccine mandate kicked in Nov. 1.

Staffers who do not comply risk losing their jobs.

A registered nurse who works at Gundersen says unvaccinated staff who did not receive an exemption are on unpaid leave and will be on terminated on Monday.

“The fact that we are now firing dedicated health care staff is just a devastating decision for a whole community,” said RN Andrea Babinski.

The gealth system has not released its final tally of unvaccinated employees.

As of September, Gundersen said 85 percent of its staff was vaccinated.
