Vehicle jumps guardrail, injures 5 at race
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — Five spectators were injured Saturday afternoon after a racing vehicle left the course during an event in Eau Claire County.
The race was part of the annual Pioneer Days Mud Bog. It’s held at Pioneer Park on Highway 37, south of Eau Claire.
According to authorities, the crash happened around 12:40 p.m. during a mud racing event. 3 adults males, 1 adult female, and 1 male child were injured.
Event organizer Daryl Dehnke says none of their injuries are serious and all but one of the victims have since been released from the hospital.
The crash happened after a vehicle malfunctioned during a mud pit race. It jumped a guardrail, pinning some of the victims underneath.
Dehnke says their injuries could have been a lot worse.
