VILLAGE OF READSTOWN, Wis. (WKBT) — Vernon County sheriff’s deputies arrested a 51-year-old Readstown man after a short vehicle pursuit Monday night.

Deputies received a call at about 11 p.m. about an incident involving Richard D. Heal in the 500 block of North Fourth Street in the Village of Readstown, according to a news release from the Vernon County Sheriff’s Department news release Thursday.

When deputies arrived, Heal fled the scene, and Vernon and Crawford County deputies pursued him southbound on State Hwy. 131 in a short chase that ended when his vehicle hit a concrete barrier at Hwy. 131 and U.S. Hwy. 14, the release said.

An off-duty Richland County sheriff’s deputy stopped and helped the Vernon and Crawford deputies take Heal in custody.

Nobody was injured, and Heal was taken to the Vernon County Detention Center.

Charges are pending through the Vernon County District Attorneys Office, according to the news release, and Heal is free on a $1,000 signature bond.

The Vernon sheriff’s office is investigating, said Sheriff John Spears.
