Verona teen accused of ramming squad cars, fleeing police

MONROE, Wis. — A 15-year-old Verona boy is in custody after leading police on a chase and ramming two squad cars early Tuesday, according to the Green County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said a vehicle matching the description of a vehicle stolen from Monroe Truck in Monroe was spotted at 12:26 a.m. traveling north on State Highway 69 in an area south of Washington Road. When a traffic stop was attempted near County Road C, the vehicle accelerated and turned east onto County Road F, according to deputies.
The vehicle attempted to ram a Monticello police squad car that was traveling in the opposite direction, according to officials. The squad car moved off the road to avoid a collision.
Deputies said the vehicle then turned south on County Road F and stopped in the road before reversing and ramming into a Green County Sheriff squad car that was also stopped. After the vehicle took off again, the Monticello police squad car went around the Green County squad car. The suspect vehicle stopped again, reversed and rammed the back of his vehicle into the front of the Monticello police squad car, according to deputies.
The Monticello police officer got out of his car and fired several shots at the vehicle, according to investigators.
The vehicle fled east on County Road EE and another Green County squad car continued east on County Road EE and located the suspect vehicle in the eastbound lane, with the driver’s door standing open nearly a half mile west of Silver Road, according to deputies.
A K-9 in the squad car was used to track the driver toward the west into a corn field. Deputies said the driver was spotted in the ditch line in the W4200 block of County Road EE, about two miles west of where the stolen vehicle was abandoned, and taken into custody.
The teen is being held on tentative charges of two counts of reckless endangerment, two counts of criminal damage to property and fleeing an officer. Additional charges are expected from Monroe police.
The Wisconsin State Patrol will conduct an investigation into the two traffic crashes. The Monticello Police Department is conducting an investigation into the shots being fired by the Monticello officer.
Other agencies involved in the incident include Albany police, New Glarus police, the Monticello Fire Department and the Green County Highway Department.
