Veterans meet up for a Freedom Honor Flight reunion

Vets shared stories, were given memorabilia

Local veterans who traveled to Washington DC to see their war monuments last month gathered to remember their trip Sunday.

Freedom Honor Flight held a reunion in La Crosse Sunday afternoon.

The World War 2 and Korean War veterans were joined by family members and volunteers for the event. They were able to share stories from the trip and were given a hardbound book with pictures and a DVD from the trip.

One local veteran was eager to remember the trip of a lifetime.

“It’s the wonderfullest thing that ever happened to me as far as my service is connected. Everybody, when they say were you on the flight? Yes! And then I gotta sit and I talk for a half an hour,” said Navy Veteran Robert Porath.

Organizers also asked veterans what they liked about the trip and what they can improve on for the next Freedom Honor Flight.
