Veterans travel down Mississippi River to raise money for St. Jude Childnre’s Hospital
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — A group of disabled veterans is travelling through our area to raise money for children in need, but they aren’t going by road.
Four veterans are floating down the Mississippi River in a pontoon boat, collecting donations for Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Beginning last weekend in Saint Paul, the crew plans on travelling 1,100 miles to the Gulf of Mexico with a stop at the Pettibone Boat Club for some dinner.
The group has raised more than $20,000 so far, but is aiming for $100,000.
“I finally decided this year, I said, ‘Okay, we’ll do this crazy bucketlist trip as long as we can raise money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital by doing it.’ Of course, these guys were all over it,” said U.S. Marine Corps Veteran Bob Sistok.
The group crew says the adventure is being paid for out of pocket and every cent raised will go towards Saint Jude’s. You can donate at the group’s GoFundMe page.
