Vice President Mike Pence promotes ‘Operation Warp Speed’ during La Crosse visit
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – During the Vice President’s visit to La Crosse on Monday, one thing he talked about was how the Trump Administration is handling the coronavirus.
Pence leads the White House Coronavirus Task Force and said since he took on the role in late February, the country now performs 800,000 tests daily.
He attributes ‘American ingenuity’ to this.
Now, the Administration is working to find a vaccine under Operation Warp Speed.
Pence said under this project, they’ve been able to get a head start.
“We have several vaccines that are already in the final stages of clinical trials. But we’re not waiting until they’re approved to produce the vaccines. At the president’s direction, we’re actually manufacturing vaccines even as we speak, so that the moment the FDA says that we have a safe and effective coronavirus vaccine, we’ll have tens of millions of doses available for the American people,” the Vice President said while speaking at Dairyland Power.
Last week, UW Health did announce researchers are vaccinating their first participants in the AstraZeneca COVID-19 clinical trial.
