Villa Louis carriage competition return people to the 1800’s

Event features 1800's style carriages and clothing

A horse competition brought people back to the 1800’s Sunday.

The annual Villa Louis Carriage Classic raced through Prairie du Chien.

The event features a team of horses pulling a carriage like you might see in the late 1800’s.

More than 100 competitors from all over the country also dressed the part, wearing clothes from the time period.

The event takes part near the historic Villa Louis mansion.

It’s the second largest carriage competition in the country, but our area offers something special for the competitors. “The comments I’ve heard is that this location, the historic mansion, the Mississippi River, the bluffs, the coulees all tie together, and plus the hospitality,” said Susan Caya-Slusser, the Villa Louis Site Director.

This is the 34th year for the carriage classic.
