Vintage jet slides off runway, through fence

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — The pilot of a vintage Russian fighter jet is OK after crash landing his plane at the airport in Eden Prairie.

City officials say the pilot was going too fast during a landing at the Flying Cloud Airport Thursday and deployed the plane’s parachute. Spokeswoman Katie Beal says the parachute collapsed and the MiG 21 jet ran off the end of the runway, crashed through a chain-link fence and came to rest on Flying Cloud Dr.

Beal says the pilot wasn’t seriously injured and was treated at the scene. Federal aviation officials will investigate. Beal says the pilot was coming in for the 2012 Air Expo at Flying Cloud Airport this weekend.
