Viroqua PD to remove ‘Thin Blue Line’ imagery from squad

VIROQUA, Wis. (WKBT) — The Viroqua Police Department announced Friday that it plans to remove the “Thin Blue Line” imagery from its squad car.

Chief Rick Niedfeldt made the announcement on the department’s Facebook page.

“Our office recognizes the different emotions that this symbol has brought to members of our community, and we want to make sure we are following our Mission Statement and Core Values as a department,” he wrote.

The chief thanked the community for its support.

“It is our hope that this decision will help build trust and optimism within the community, with a goal of shared success,” he said.

The department logo with the Thin Blue Line prompted a heated debate this week as leaders in Viroqua discussed whether images and symbols were appropriate for city property.
