Viroqua’s McIntosh Memorial Library opens Aviary Center
VIROQUA, Wis. (WKBT)– Forget the binoculars–bird enthusiasts in Viroqua can view some exotic birds up close.
The McIntosh Memorial Library opened its new aviary center on Friday.
The library received a $10,000 dollar AARP grant to fund the project.
Organizers held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and then hosted a “festival of birds” featuring live owls and bald eagles.
The library director said this center can educate and inspire.
“To learn about birds, to be inspired to go out in nature and do a bird walk,” said Trina Erickson, library director. “To have feeders in your home, outside of your home. Just to understand the beauty of birds that live in our region.”
This is Viroqua’s only facility with an aviary. The seven birds in the center include finches and one singing canary.
