Viterbo honors more than 500 graduates at spring commencement ceremony
Viterbo commencement returns to La Crosse Center for first time in three years
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – More than 500 Viterbo graduates took the stage to get their diplomas at the La Crosse Center Saturday, Families looked on as graduates marked the end of their studies at the university.
On Friday, about 100 nursing students received their pins as they begin their journey in healthcare. Commencement ceremonies have pivoted with the changing climate surrounding COVID-19 in recent years.
Last year, the university was able to honor graduate accomplishments again in person outdoors at Copeland Park. This year, after three years, the ceremony returned to the La Crosse Center. President Rick Trietley says these students have been tested outside the classroom during their college careers.
“They’ve demonstrated resiliency,” Trietley said. “They’ve demonstrated perseverance, they’ve overcome the COVID environment for two years.
“On top of that, we’ve had numerous incidents of social and racial activism that these students have been a part of. So, it’s been a rough four years, but we’re so proud of them.”
More than 30 doctoral students also graduated from their respective programs.
