Volunteers bake hundreds of apple pies in La Crescent
Group bakes thousands over 44 years
LA CRESCENT, Minn. (WKBT) — With Apple Fest here, the smell of fresh Apple Pies is wafting through parts of our area.
About 50 volunteers are baking five hundred pies at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in La Crescent. Plans for the pie baking began in August to make sure all roles in the kitchen were filled.
This is the 44th year of the annual Apple Pie Bake. The group has made 20,000 pies over the years, and organizers say they don’t plan on stopping any time soon.
“They’re very good. We’ve been doing it so long it’s kind of a well-oiled machine. Some of these people, most of them, they just come in and they know what they’re job is and they have at it,” said Merridee Moilanen of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
The delicious apple pies cost ten dollars for baked and nine for unbaked. Proceeds go back into the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
