Volunteers brave intense heat to clean up after Riverfest in La Crosse

LA CROSSE (WKBT) — After another successful weekend at Riverside Park, organizers and volunteers began cleaning up the park Tuesday.

Compared to a week’s worth of preparation for the event, clean up for Riverfest only takes one full day to complete. Known as the “fest in a box,” organizers use semi trailers to pack and store items quickly.

“Volunteers at the clean-up is huge,” said media director Nick Bjerke. “We couldn’t do it with just the 14 people that are normally at Riverfest. We have to rely on all our volunteers to help tear down everything and put it in the trailers.”

The toughest challenge workers faced Tuesday was intense heat around 90 and humidity almost that.
