Federal ruling blocks voter ID law
LA CROSSE COUNTY, Wis. (WKBT) — Wisconsin is expecting a 15-percent voter turnout Tuesday for the primary election.
When you go to cast a ballot you will not be asked to show a photo ID. Even though the Wisconsin Supreme Court sided in favor of the state’s law requiring it a federal ruling is still blocking it from taking effect. Unless that is overturned the state cannot ask voters for a photo ID.
“So they go to the polls as they have for the past couple of years. No photo ID is needed, they just need to make sure that they state their name and address and that they’re in the poll book under that name and address and then they’re free to vote,” said La Crosse County Clerk Ginny Dankmeyer.
Polls open Tuesday at 7 a.m. and closes at 8 p.m. Results will be shown Tuesday night on News 8 at 10 p.m. and will be available at News8000.com.
