WAFER Food Pantry sees spike in number of families picking up food
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – WAFER Food Pantry is seeing the highest number of families picking up food since before the pandemic began.
Staff is working to catch up on restocking shelves so food packages can be made for the next shifts.
The sudden increase in demand took the food pantry by surprise.
“Normally we notice trends, and it’s not usually an instant bump to numbers, it’s usually a gradual increase,” says Executive Director Erin Waldhart. “This was a pretty big increase. We went from about 35 to 40 families per shift to nearly 60.”
WAFER leaders say they still have plenty of food to help anyone who needs it.
You can find more information about when you can pick up food on WAFER’s website.
