WAFER kicks off community fundraising for Northside marketplace

LA CROSSE (WKBT) – WAFER Food Pantry kicked off community funding for their building project on Wednesday.

WAFER leaders showed off images of what the new pantry will look like once construction is finished.

WAFER is currently renovating the former Gordy’s Grocery Store in La Crosse’s North Side.

Pantry leaders are aiming to make picking up food a more grocery-like experience.

Leaders say having a location in the middle of a neighborhood will be vital to serving people in need.

“We serve people but we’re an industrial park. We don’t serve businesses,” said Taylor Haley, WAFER board president. “I’m thrilled that we’re going to be right at that critical intersection on the North Side because it’s right in the middle of the people we serve.”

The renovations will be completed this spring.

You can donate to the project on WAFER’s official website.
