WAFER to host drive-thru food distribution Saturday

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — WAFER Food Pantry will be handing out boxes of free food Saturday during a drive-thru event to help combat food insecurity in La Crosse County.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to noon at WAFER’s Sumner Street location, People are asked to follow Milwaukee Street to Causeway Boulevard to WAFER.

All individuals in line with receive groceries. There is no registration or proof of income required. The food fair is available to anyone in need to address the increased rate of food insecurity due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Many individuals in La Crosse County are lacking access to nutritious food right now. For this Food Fair event, WAFER will have extra food available in hopes to increase the number of families that they typically serve,” said WAFER in a statement. “Many individuals are facing hunger for the first time this past year, and WAFER urges anyone who needs the extra help to please come down to receive the food they need and are welcome to.”

The food boxes contain shelf stable pantry items and perishable food including meat, produce, dairy, and bakery items. Participants in this event do not even have to get out of their cars for access to the healthy food options. Volunteers will place boxes of food directly in the trunk or back seat of participants’ vehicles.
