WAFER’s need up, food donations down
LA CROSSE, WI — WAFER food pantry is helping more families this year, but is receiving fewer donations.
The pantry has helped 386 new families in 2013. It’s helping a wide variety of people including families with kids, veterans, senior citizens and the homeless.
So far this year, it has distributed three quarters of a million pounds of food. But even with the increased demand this year, donations are down.
“Our community donations are less this year than they were last year, we’re down about 7,500 pounds versus last year at this time,” said WAFER’s Executive Director Erin Waldhart.
WAFER is also short on volunteers. Waldhart says they need the most help during the evening shift.
