WAKE brings traditional Asian stories to local kids
ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) — A program in our area is teaching students about different cultures from around the world.
The ‘World Art through (K)Cultural Engagement’ – or WAKE – is an interactive storytelling platform that creates cross-cultural communication and education through art.
On Thursday WAKE stopped at Eagle Bluff Elementary in Onalaska to share traditional stories from Asian cultures.
Interactive workshops about India, Russia Japan, and China were teaching students about cultures much different from their own, in hopes of creating a more inclusive community for the future.
Principal Todd Saner at Eagle Bluff Elementary said, “We would like to make sure that all are included. When we say all of our students we mean all of our students. We want everyone to feel like they belong at our school and in our community at large.”
This is the second year that WAKE has held a cross-cultural event, but it’s the first year an event has been held at Eagle Bluff.
