Walking tour highlights women’s suffrage in La Crosse
The La Crosse County Historical Society held its 21st annual Oak Grove Cemetery guided tours
LA CROSSE, Wis (WKBT) – Every September, the historical society pays tribute to important moments in history. This year, they’re recognizing the Women’s Suffrage Movement.
The La Crosse County Historical Society held its 21st annual Oak Grove Cemetery guided tours Sunday.
Actors were placed along the tour and portrayed people from the area that were involved in fighting for women’s suffrage. But it also included Esther Domke, the first woman officially elected to public office in La Crosse.
Even though the pandemic, this event is very popular.
“We had to limit places on the tour so radically, we have less than half as many available spaces as last year. We sold. we sold out over a week ago,” said Peggy Derrick, the Executive Director of the La Crosse County Historical Society.
The League of Women Voters was at the event with information on how to register to vote.
