Waste Audit reviews recycling habits at Western Technical College

A waste audit is giving area residents the chance to consider what they are putting in the trash.

The event hosted by Western Technical College encourages college students and residents to recycle more and decrease waste heading to landfills.

Western’s sustainable project specialist says participants are given a chance to understand once something is thrown away, it may not be able to be recycled.

“We’re just trying to encourage people to recycle properly, because contamination factor is a big problem,” said Amy Green, Sustainability Project Specialist at Western Technical College.

The audit found that 30 percent of the waste reviewed was properly recycled.
