‘Waste Not, Wag A Lot’ helps use food waste to create dog treats at Mayo Clinic in La Crosse, Rochester
The treats can also be purchase for the Coulee Region Humane Society in La Crosse or Paws and Claws Humane Society in Rochester
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – A new to reduce food waste will have some tails wagging.
Mayo Clinic Health System’s ‘Waste Not, Wag A Lot’ program. uses scraps discarded from food services to make dog biscuits.
Those dog biscuits are then sold for $5 a piece at Mayo Clinic Food Services locations.
The hope is to make sure that food that won’t go to people is helps to keep bellies full.
“It’s food that is perfectly ok to eat. It’s just quality wise, it’s not something that we would typically serve to our customers so we don’t want to have to throw it away,” said Brittany Remold with Mayo Clinic Health System.
The treats can also be purchased and then donated to the Coulee Region Humane Society, or Paws and Claws Humane Society in Rochester.
