Watermelons cover Nebraska highway

In what can be described as a “fruitful trip,” Nebraska police responded to a local interstate after a truck lost part of its load of watermelons onto the roadway.

UPI reported the Omaha Police Department said the melons fell from a truck onto I-680 at the I-80 split around 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

Nebraska Department of Transportation crews were called to clean up the mess, described as an “organic debris field” by Omaha Police Officer Mike Bossman.

It’s not clear what led to the watermelons falling from the truck, UPI reported.

Bossman said most of the melons were destroyed, but he posted a picture on Twitter of a fellow officer holding one of the melons writing, “A few watermelons survived the fall of the truck & subsequent roll/slide down the interstate. Ofcr Chadek took care of them!”
